Local gutter cleaning for Borrowash, DE72

Borrowash is a busy commuter village just beyond Derby's eastern edge, on the old road between Derby and Nottingham. It grew through the 1800s around the Derby Canal and the railway from a small hamlet into the larger of the two villages in the Ockbrook and Borrowash parish, and today it's a mix of older village homes, Victorian villas and decades of newer housing.

That mix of mature trees and a wide range of housing is exactly what keeps gutters busy here. The established trees along Derby Road and the older streets, and the gardens across the newer estates, shed a heavy load onto the rooflines below every autumn. We know Borrowash well — from the period homes near St Stephen's Church to the modern closes off Cole Lane — and clear every property the same way: from the ground with SkyVac, documented with GoPro footage so you can see the before and after for yourself.

Owner & Operator · Former Local Authority Cleaning Inspector

When you book Derby Gutters for your Borrowash clean, you deal with one person from start to finish — no call centre, no subcontractors. The person who quotes the job is the person who does the work and answers the phone afterwards.

I spent years as a Local Authority Cleaning Inspector, checking work was done to standard, on top of 25+ years in professional cleaning. That trained eye is exactly what I bring to every Borrowash gutter I clean — and it's why every job comes with GoPro before-and-after proof, so you never have to take it on trust. Our first five-star Google review is in, and more about Derby Gutters is here.

Why Borrowash Gutters Block

Common gutter problems in Borrowash

Mature village & garden trees

The established trees along Borrowash's older streets and the leafy estate gardens fill gutters fast each autumn — often enough that some homes need clearing twice a year.

Conservatory valley gutters

Many Borrowash homes added conservatories over the years. The valley gutter between the conservatory and the house is the most common blockage point — and the hardest to reach safely.

Damp near the canal & river

Down toward the old canal and the Derwent, damp encourages moss on roofs that washes into gutters — and once an outlet blocks, rain spills straight down the wall.

Borrowash Housing

The property types we clean in Borrowash

Borrowash grew from a small hamlet into a busy commuter village, so its gutters come in every era — from Victorian villas to modern estates.

Pre-1900 · Village core

Period & older homes

The older houses along Derby Road and around the old village — some with original cast iron or deep traditional profiles that need careful, knowledgeable handling rather than a one-size-fits-all clean.

Victorian & Edwardian

Villas & terraces

The handsome villas and terraces built as Borrowash grew around the canal and railway, now under decades of mature tree growth that fills gutters fast each autumn.

1950s–1980s

Post-war estates

The detached and semi-detached homes across the newer estates, with concrete tile roofs that shed moss and often a conservatory added whose valley gutter is a classic blockage point.

Modern

Newer developments

Modern homes on the village's newer closes, with factory-fitted UPVC guttering, sometimes with solar panels and tight roof valleys that trap debris out of sight.

Local Knowledge

How we get to Borrowash

We know the village well — here's the ground we cover and the landmarks we work around.

Borrowash sits just beyond Derby's eastern boundary, about four and a half miles from the city centre on the old Derby–Nottingham road, and it's a straightforward run for us out along the A52 or Nottingham Road. The village runs along Derby Road, with Station Road, Victoria Avenue and Cole Lane carrying much of it.

Borrowash grew up around the Derby Canal, which arrived in 1796 and ran through the heart of the village before falling out of use last century — the Grade II-listed Ulliker's Bridge still crosses the old line west of Station Road, and the canal is gradually being restored. The village's parish church, St Stephen's, was built in 1889–90 in heather brick by the Derby architect Percy Heylyn Currey.

Once the "second village" to neighbouring Ockbrook, Borrowash grew larger in the late 1800s on the back of its lace, cotton and milling trades, and today it's a busy commuter village for both Derby and Nottingham. From the village our regular working area covers the whole of Borrowash and out toward neighbouring Spondon, Ockbrook and Draycott.

Most Borrowash properties are around 15 minutes from us, so if you report an urgent overflow we can often be with you the same day. We cover the whole village at the same fixed pricing — no travel charges.

Around the village

We regularly work the streets around St Stephen's Church, Derby Road and the old canal, as well as the newer estates off Cole Lane and Victoria Avenue.

The wider area

Borrowash sits on Derby's eastern edge next to Spondon, Ockbrook and Draycott, with quick access to the A52 — all part of our regular round across the east of the city, out through Chaddesden and Alvaston.

Borrowash Questions

Gutter cleaning in Borrowash, answered

Do you cover all of Borrowash?

Yes — the whole village and the DE72 area, from the older homes along Derby Road and around St Stephen's Church to the newer estates off Cole Lane and Victoria Avenue. If you're nearby in Spondon, Ockbrook or Draycott, we cover those too.

How often should Borrowash gutters be cleaned?

For most Borrowash homes once a year is enough, but properties near the older tree-lined streets or down toward the canal and river often benefit from twice a year. Our annual maintenance plan covers scheduled visits automatically.

I have a conservatory — can you clean the gutter between it and the house?

Yes, and it's one of the most common jobs we do in Borrowash. The valley gutter between the conservatory roof and the house blocks frequently because it collects debris from both surfaces. We clear it from the ground with SkyVac reach poles — no one walks on your conservatory roof. See our conservatory gutter cleaning page.

Do you clean period and cast iron gutters in the old village?

Yes — the older homes and Victorian villas around the old village sometimes have deep traditional or cast iron profiles. We clear these carefully, by hand where the profile calls for it, rather than treating them like modern UPVC. See our period property gutter care page.

Do I need to be home?

Yes please — our SkyVac runs off mains power, so we'll need access to an outdoor socket or a plug just inside. Once we're set up you can carry on with your day, and we'll send your GoPro before-and-after footage over the same day — easiest by WhatsApp given the file sizes, just ask.
